A Liberal Millennial with A Groundbreaking Message: Life is Important.

Yesterday, I made a post schedule for the stuff I was going to have up on The Adulting Hippie for the month of July. This was even after U.S. police fatally shot Alton Sterling with 6 ‘warning shots’ (after claiming he pulled his gun out on them, when it’s clear that the police officers REMOVED the gun and set it down on the ground before shooting him) in Louisiana.

I woke up this morning, and TJ told me that there had been another one. I knew right away what he meant. Philando Castile was shot dead when asked for the permit for his conceal and carry. While reaching for the permit,  they shot him. This happened in Minnesota – so we can’t even blame the racist south on this one.

I just don’t understand why all of these hoops have to be jumped through to prove that African Americans should not be shot when they have done NOTHING.

The reality is, that we live in a world where I could get away with a pety crime, bat my eyelashes, and walk away scot free. A black man even walks down the street, and he has to worry about getting shot for ‘pulling his gun out’ AKA walking while black.

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe someone should be able to buy an AR-15 who beat his ex-wife, whos co-workers called ‘homophobic’ and ‘unhinged’ on multiple complaints to the company, or ya know…has been investigated by the FBI for having ISIS relations.

“Maybe this one will show them.” I find myself thinking, just before hearing about how ‘banning guns won’t work’ or how ‘the victim DID pull a gun on the cops.’

That is bullshit.

Please, for the sake of our country- for your life, my life, and your children’s lives – STOP being in denial that something must change. Stop ‘praying’ hoping that will actually change something.

James 2:17 “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

We have to act. We have to get off of these ‘high horses’ and understand what it is like to be in someone else’s shoes. For the sake of humanity; we have GOT TO CHANGE SOMETHING.

This morning, I was enjoying the nice summer day, thinking of these things before I wrote, and a thought came to me; what if the next mass killing was an atomic bomb explosion?

We handed mentally insane people AR-15s aka ‘America’s Gun’, and have racist police officers who shoot people with no grounds to stand on other than the color of their skin they were born with.

My name is Madison Swart. I am straight. I am white. I am sorry.

To all of the family members and friends of the victims this weekend, the Orlando shooting victims, the college shootings, Sandy Hook, the Batman movie theater~

I am sorry that your innocent loved ones had their lives taken because we live in an ignorant, racist country who can’t stand to get their heads out of their asses long enough to change anything.

We need politicians who change policy – not dodge the hard questions

We need police officers who protect – not kill.

We need a revolution.

My name is Madison Swart. I am straight. I am white. I am a liberal. I am a millennial.

I am a part of the revolution that chooses each and every day to act differently in our society. To better our world – so that we can STOP innocent lives from being taken.

It’s almost as if life isn’t important in their eyes.

Isn’t life all there is? At least for now?

Life is our existence. It is who we are. It is everything. Please, don’t take someone else’s.

    1. Thanks so much – little did I know Dallas would happen this morning. Honestly, I don’t even feel like there is anything else I can say.
Watched Dead Poets Society last night, and it really re-inspired me. Our lives are so precious, and are really all we have. It’s heartbreaking to think innocent ones are just being tossed away.
      Thanks for reading!
