I Like to listen to music while I get ready.
Normally I’ll play some Bob Dylan or Janis Joplin and on Friday’s I play Jimi Hendrix cause ya know it’s Friday and it’s time to get some party music on.
But this entire week I haven’t taken my Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan vinyl off of my turntable.
Every morning when it gets to the last song, Blowin’ in the Wind: I start to cry.
Every morning this week this has happened.
These Lyrics are why:
HOW MANY TIMES MUST THE CANNON BALLS FLY
BEFORE THEY’RE FOREVER BANNED?
How many years can some people exist
before they’re allowed to be free?
HOW MANY TIMES CAN A MAN TURN HIS HEAD
PRETENDING HE JUST DOESN’T SEE?
How many ears must one man have
before he can hear people crying?
HOW MANY DEATHS WILL IT TAKE TILL HE KNOWS
THAT TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED?!
The answer my friends is blowin’ in the wind.
The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
In 1962, there were people advocating for humanity. And we lost.
In 2016, we’re still here…and this time, humanity will win.
The cannon balls still fly.
People still aren’t free.
Men still turn their heads.
They still can’t hear the people crying.
And apparently, all of the innocent people that have lost their lives…
STILL isn’t enough.
Humanity is the answer. Humanity. Love will set us free. I have never been more sure of anything in my life. I think that maybe it’s time we FINALLY gave humanity, love, happiness, freedom, and equality a chance.
Our country needs a chance.
People need a chance.
THE WORLD NEEDS A CHANCE.
